An Allegiant Air passenger said she and her son were removed from their flight because her son had a severe nut allergy.
The complaint was filed on September 5 with the Department of Transportation, it stated that the passenger’s son is severely allergic to pistachios and cashews, according to Insider. His nut allergy could cause an anaphylactic shock that could cause death.
The mother told a flight attendant upon boarding in Chattanooga, Tennessee that her son had a serious nut allergy and asked for them not to serve cashews, according to Insider.
That flight attendant said they wouldn’t serve nuts but the complaint said another flight attendant overheard the request and “became visibly enraged” and said “I’m going to get them off this flight,” according to Insider.
The complaint also stated that the flight attendant wanted commission for snack sales and that added to why the mother and son were eventually removed from the flight. The gate agent also told the mother that a food allergy could cause an emergency landing, according to Insider.
Instead of taking the next flight from Chattanooga to Tampa Bay in two days, the mother got a car and drove. She said she was only issued a refund in flight credits, according to Insider. The complaint requested the airline to pay a fine and damages.
