Rematches involving the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are dominating the heavyweight discussion right now.
The next big fight in the banner division is a second battle between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. Their first contest was for undisputed supremacy and saw Usyk come out on top after a close fight that he won on points. That handed Fury his first career loss but now he is just weeks away from a chance at revenge out in Saudi Arabia on December 21.
Speaking to iFL TV, Joshua reflected on the first fight between Usyk and Fury.
“I said Usyk will win. I said that from 2023. I do think Fury’s a good fighter, but there’s levels.A cruiserweight nearly knocked out Fury. That’s what I say, you’ve got to learn from the situations. I don’t think he underestimated him but what he was saying, he’s a middleweight this and that, just goes to show, you never downplay a fighter. You should give them the credit they deserve to make sure that you don’t go in there thinking you’re going to bully someone and next thing you know the tables can turn in a fight Usyk put up a good performance.”He was then asked if he thought ‘The Gypsy King’ could get revenge in the rematch.
“Me personally, what I think, nah, no way. I think Fury is good, you saw some good moments, I just don’t think he can do it. I don’t think he’s better than Usyk.”
Meanwhile Joshua is hoping to have a second go at Daniel Dubois having lost by knockout first time round in September. It had been expected to happen in February but Joshua’s team have claimed he might not be ready due to injuries.
