American plane makes emergency landing at Reagan Airport after reports of smoke in cabin

An American Airlines aircraft made an emergency landing at Reagan National Airport after reports of smoke in the plane’s cabin Monday morning.

There are no reports of injuries and there were no fire hazards found on the aircraft. The airplane came to a stop and passengers evacuated onto the airfield via the aircraft’s stairs.

A spokesperson with American Airlines released a statement on the incident that read:

American Eagle Flight 5082, operated by PSA Airlines, reported possible smoke in the cabin of the aircraft upon landing earlier this morning.
The Bombardier CRJ-200 from Tallahassee International Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport landed safely at 9:36 a.m. ET. Passengers and crew deplaned on the taxiway via the forward boarding door, and were subsequently bused to the terminal; no injuries were reported. Our maintenance team is evaluating the aircraft.
The Metropolitan Washington Aviation Authority (MWAA) also released a statement saying:

At approximately 9:40 a.m. Monday, American flight 5082, a CRJ-200 jet aircraft from Tallahassee, landed at DCA then declared an emergency due to reports of smoke in the cabin. The aircraft came to a stop and evacuated passengers onto the airfield via the aircraft’s stairs. Airports Authority Fire and Rescue responded to the scene to assist in the evacuation and inspect the aircraft. No injuries were reported, and no fire or hazards were found on the aircraft. Passengers are being bused to the terminal.
