Flight 3064 was heading to Phoenix when the pilot reported a “potential situation” involving mechanical issues, said Tom Nolan, executive director of the Palm Springs International Airport.

He wouldn’t provide specific details on what issues arose.

The plane departed about 8 a.m. and it returned to the airport just before 8:30 a.m.

Less than 10 minutes into the flight, the pilot indicated he would return to Palm Springs, according to an air traffic control recording on liveatc.net.

The pilot reported an indicator light was displaying for the right engine and asked for assistance on the runway in case there was an issue, according to the recording. The plane landed without incident.

There were 42 people on board and none of them were injured. Questions about their new flight arrangements were referred to American Airlines.

The Palm Springs Fire Department confirmed the situation was quickly resolved, but additional questions were referred to airport officials.
