An American Airlines plane headed to Milan from Miami was forced to make an emergency landing late Sunday in Newfoundland after experiencing severe turbulence.

Paramedics were waiting for the plane when it landed in St. John’s, and three flight attendants and four passengers were taken to an area hospital for further evaluation, American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein said. The plane was carrying 192 passengers and 11 crew members, and the seatbelt light was on when the turbulence started, CBS News reports. Feinstein said he believed the injuries are not life threatening, and the airline is working on getting the other passengers to Milan.
