American Airlines flight to Chicago diverted to Detroit after medical emergency

American Airlines flight 3651 headed for Chicago was unexpectedly diverted to Detroit on Friday morning because of a medical emergency, the airline confirmed.

According to the American Airlines website, the plane departed Albany, New York, at about 7:03 a.m. and was en route to Chicago O’Hare International Airport when it was diverted to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport

“The flight diverted to Detroit due to a medical emergency and will redepart (sic) shortly,” American Airlines said in a statement. “We are unable to provide additional details due to passenger privacy.”

Wayne County Airport Authority spokeswoman Lisa Gass said the flight touched down in Detroit at 8:41 a.m., paramedics responded to the medical emergency immediately and transported the patient to an area hospital for treatment.

She added that took off again for Chicago.

According to American Airlines, the flight departed Detroit at 9:41 a.m. and landed in Chicago at 9:56 a.m. CST.
