"Six WestJet Passengers Injured After Emergency Diversion to Winnipeg Due to Security Threat"

Jessica Hewitt with YLW says the incident aircraft at Kelowna International Airport did stop out on the runway so its landing gear could be inspected.

However, the WestJet flight’s landing gear did not collapse.

After the inspection, the aircraft taxied to the terminal under its own power, and the passengers unloaded as normal.

It’s not known if the aircraft requires repairs or remains in service.

Tom Wilson with the City of Kelowna confirms WestJet flight 3239 departing from Kelowna International Airport for Edmonton advised the air traffic control tower that a mechanical issue had occurred and that it was required to return to YLW.

As a safety precaution, emergency response teams were dispatched for the standby, the city says.

The aircraft landed safely and there was no disruption to scheduled flight service.

However, Castanet has received unconfirmed reports the aircraft is still on the runway with collapsed landing gear and passengers still on board.

We have a reporter headed to the scene.

A WestJet Encore flight with 78 people on board landed safely in Kelowna Thursday afternoon despite experiencing landing gear problems.

Fire crews scrambled as the Bombardier Q400 called in the gear problem to the YLW tower about 12:45 p.m.

The plane circled over the lake to burn off fuel, as it reportedly had 30,000 litres on board.

The aircraft landed safely at 1 p.m.
