WestJet Airlines is warning passengers to check the status of their flight before they head to the airport as approximately 50-60 flights have been delayed on Saturday. The company also warned there may be cancellations later in the day.

A spokesman told Global News the airline is experiencing “a significant IT outage” which caused the delays.

“WestJet is aware of a significant IT outage affecting a number of our network systems including check-in, contact centre and reservations,” Lauren Stewart said through email.

She also provided a link for customers to check the status of WestJet flights and said to also keep an eye on the company’s social media feeds for updates before heading to the airport.

“We anticipate potential flight delays and encourage guests to check the status of their flights prior to leaving for the airport.”

Westjet issued a tweet later Saturday afternoon which said that the airline had made some progress “in partially restoring some systems.”
