Another bomb threat diverts WestJet plane bound for Toronto

Another bomb threat against a Canadian passenger jet — the fifth such incident in less than a week — resulted in another diverted flight on Wednesday.

WestJet Flight 722 from Vancouver was bound for Toronto, but was diverted to Calgary due to the threat, which was done out of an “abundance of caution,” WestJet confirmed on Twitter.

It was the third straight day that a WestJet flight received a threat. On Monday, a flight from Edmonton to Toronto was diverted to Winnipeg, and six passengers suffered minor injuries when leaving the plane via emergency slides. A flight on Tuesday from Toronto bound for Saskatoon was threatened but landed safely at its intended destination.

In the previous cases, nothing suspicious was found after searching the threatened aircraft.

The rash of threats seem to have started last Thursday when St. John’s International Airport was temporarily closed after a note was found in the washroom of an Air Canada flight that authorities considered a potential bomb threat.
