O’HARE — A 57-year-old woman was killed after being pinned in part of an O’Hare Airport conveyor belt system, authorities said.

Firefighters responded around 7:45 a.m. Thursday to O’Hare’s International Terminal for reports of a person pinned in machinery, Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford said.

A woman was found in a restricted baggage handling area, entangled in machinery that was part of a conveyor belt system, Langford said. She was last seen on camera entering the unoccupied restricted area at 2:27 a.m., police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. She has not yet been identified, and it wasn’t immediately clear if she is an airport employee.

The Sun-Times reported emergency crews responded to an area that looked to be near a Delta jet, but an airline spokesperson said the woman is not a Delta worker.

Police are conducting a death investigation. No other information was immediately available.
