WestJet is introducing non-stop flights between Calgary and Mexico City International Airport (MEX) starting 14 May 2025
WestJet is introducing non-stop flights between Calgary and Mexico City International Airport (MEX) starting 14 May 2025. The airline will operate five weekly flights, cementing its position as Canada’s leading carrier to Mexico while expanding Calgary’s role as a vital international hub.
The new route marks a further step in WestJet’s international expansion strategy and responds to growing demand for direct connections between Western Canada and Mexico’s capital.
“Our growing investment in Mexican destinations has established WestJet as the primary link between Canada and Mexico, supporting both nations’ tourism and business sectors,” said Daniel Fajardo, WestJet Vice-President of Network and Schedule Planning.
“This Calgary-Mexico City route opens new opportunities for Western Canadians to experience Mexico’s rich heritage, while fostering North American trade relationships. The timing of these flights has been carefully planned to optimize connections for both business and leisure travelers.”

Connecting Western Canadian Business to Mexico
The revival of this route, last operated in 2018, creates essential connections for Alberta’s business community. It provides direct access to one of North America’s largest consumer and trading markets.
Western Canadian small businesses and exporters will particularly benefit from increased cargo capacity, enabling more efficient trade operations. The service will operate year-round, ensuring consistent access to Mexico’s dynamic market and supporting long-term business relationships between the two regions.
Leading Canadian-Mexican Air Travel
With the addition of Mexico City, The WestJet Group, including Sunwing Airlines, will connect 24 Canadian cities to 13 Mexican destinations in 2025.
The group maintains its position as Canada’s top carrier to Mexico, offering over 200 weekly flights during peak seasons.
In 2024, they averaged 46 daily flights between the two countries, transporting more than 2.6 million passengers. This extensive network demonstrates WestJet’s commitment to strengthening North American connectivity and supporting growing travel demands.
Aeromexico Partnership
WestJet’s long-standing partnership with Aeromexico, dating back to 2011, offers travelers seamless connections beyond Mexico City. Calgary passengers can easily book continuing flights to major Mexican cities. These include Chihuahua, Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Merida, and Monterrey with single check-in convenience.
Mexican travelers gain access to WestJet’s extensive domestic network through Calgary’s global hub. The codeshare agreement ensures smooth transfers and baggage handling, while offering travelers the flexibility to earn and redeem loyalty points across both airlines.
Growth and Future Prospects
This Mexico City service joins several new direct routes launching from YYC Calgary International Airport this spring. This represents an 11 percent growth in WestJet’s hub operations compared to last year.
The expansion reflects Calgary’s growing importance as an international gateway and WestJet’s strategic focus on strengthening its global network.
The airline has invested significantly in both fleet and infrastructure improvements to support these new services. Passenger will be assured a high-quality travel experience.
The route will be serviced by WestJet’s modern fleet of aircraft. Cabin configuration features both Premium and Economy cabins to cater to different traveler preferences.
Flight schedules have been optimized to facilitate convenient connections on both ends.
The complete summer 2025 schedule is available on the airline website, with competitive introductory fares being offered to celebrate the new route.
