Wilmington Airport will soon be served by an airline that flies around the world, thanks to a luxury motor coach service that begins in two months.

The Landline Company and the Delaware River and Bay Authority celebrated the new venture with American Airlines Wednesday. Landline operates buses that allow AA passengers to check-in and undergo TSA screenings at smaller airports. The secure bus delivers them right to the gate of their flight at PHL.

The bus also brings them back after their return flight. The service will begin in October.

Nick Johnson of Landline said the schedule is designed for maximum convenience.

“There are six big waves where there is a bunch of flights that depart in a 40-minute window. These buses are perfectly times, six times a day to connect to those six big waves of flight departures,” Johnson said.

The motor coach trip can be booked at the time of booking an AA flight. As for the cost, Johnson said “it just varies by season and day, based on flight demand.”

Delaware River and Bay Authority Executive Director Tom Cook took note of the fact that a year-and-a-half ago, Delaware was the only state in the nation that did not have any type of commercial air service, before the arrival of Avelo Airlines.

“Today’s announcement really expands our customers’ options exponentially,” Cook said.

Representative Franklin Cooke stepped aboard the Landline bus and was shown its comfortable reclining seats, free WiFi availability and other amenitis.

“This is what we need,” Cooke said. “This place is growing.”
