United Airlines is trying to do right by Terrell Davis after an incident with a flight attendant during a family trip ended with the former Denver Broncos running back being led off the plane in handcuffs and placed on a no-fly list.
According to CNN, United says the flight attendant who accused the NFL Hall of Famer of hitting him is no longer with the company, and Davis’ ban from future flights has been lifted.
All of this came after Davis described the July 13 encounter in a July 30 Instagram post, saying he tapped a flight attendant to ask for a cup of ice during a flight from Denver to Orange County, California. However, the situation escalated when the flight attendant accused Davis of hitting him. Davis said FBI agents escorted him from the plane in handcuffs when the flight landed, and United placed him on a no-fly list.
The football star shared a copy of the notification he got from United’s Passenger Incident Review Committee in his post.
“While my family and I continue to have difficult conversations with our children, I will continue to fight for what is right for all passengers of @united,” he wrote in part.
In a statement to CNN, a United spokesperson said they did their best to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. “The day after the letter was sent, we discussed with Mr. Davis’ team that it had been rescinded. We have apologized to Mr. Davis for his experience and continue to review our handling of incidents like this to protect our highest priority – the safety of our customers and crew,” said Leslie Scott.
But while United is trying to undo the damage, Davis’ legal team says it’s too little, too late. According to CNN, Davis’ attorney Parker Stinar said Davis only found out about the flight ban being lifted after his social media post describing the incident.
