One of the most notable additions is the new direct flight between Calgary (YYC) and Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF), starting on May 15, 2024, and running through September 1, 2024. This route will operate four times a week, marking the first direct link between Calgary and Iceland. It will serve as a convenient gateway for Western Canadians to explore Iceland or connect to other European destinations through low-cost carriers based in Reykjavik. The flights will be operated on WestJet’s Boeing 737 MAX 8, with both economy and premium cabins available.

WestJet is also introducing new direct flights from Toronto (YYZ) to Grenada (GND) starting in August 2024. Grenada, known for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, is a popular destination in the Caribbean. This new route underscores WestJet’s commitment to growing its presence in sun destinations, expanding options for travelers seeking a tropical getaway. Additionally, WestJet is increasing its capacity on routes to Latin America and the Caribbean by 57% compared to last summer, cementing its position as the leading airline for leisure travel from Canada to these regions.

In addition to these new services, WestJet will restore transatlantic routes, including the resumption of direct flights from Halifax (YHZ) to London-Gatwick (LGW), Dublin (DUB), and Edinburgh (EDI). These seasonal routes will be available from late spring to early fall 2024, offering travelers in Atlantic Canada easier access to Europe. Halifax, in particular, will see significant growth, with a 44% increase in capacity over 2023.

Overall, these new routes and expanded services reflect WestJet’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its transatlantic and leisure travel offerings, giving Canadians more direct travel options to sought-after global destinations.

Bookings for these routes are now open, so travelers are encouraged

WestJet’s recently unveiled Summer 2024 schedule introduces several exciting new routes, enhancing both leisure and business travel options for Canadians. The airline’s commitment to expanding its network is clearly reflected in the 15 new routes across Western Canada and the restoration of transatlantic services from Eastern Canada
