EasyJet flight issues urgent ‘medical emergency’ as passenger rushed to hospital

By | February 7, 2025

An easyJet flight from Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to Manchester, UK, was compelled to make an emergency landing in Venice, Italy, after a passenger required urgent medical attention. Flight U22254 departed from Sharm El-Sheikh at 8:05 PM local time on December 4, 2024, and was scheduled to arrive in Manchester at 12:10 AM the following day. However, due to the medical emergency, the aircraft diverted to Venice, where the passenger was promptly transferred to a hospital for treatment. The flight subsequently continued its journey, arriving in Manchester at approximately 1:35 AM, about 85 minutes behind schedule.

An easyJet spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY2254 from Sharm El Sheikh to Manchester on December 4 diverted to Venice due to a passenger requiring urgent medical assistance. On arrival in Venice, the passenger was transferred to hospital and the flight continued to Manchester. We wish them a speedy recovery and are in touch with the family to ensure their wellbeing.”

The airline emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of its customers and crew are its highest priorities and expressed gratitude to the other passengers for their patience and understanding during the unscheduled stop.

This incident follows a similar event earlier in the year when an easyJet flight from Hurghada, Egypt, to Manchester was diverted to Zagreb, Croatia, after a cabin crew member fell ill. Passengers on that flight experienced significant delays and reported a lack of support from the airline during the unscheduled stop.

Such medical emergencies, while relatively rare, underscore the importance of airlines being prepared to handle health-related incidents promptly to ensure passenger safety.
