Bike passenger killed in Niagara Falls crash

The passenger on the bike, a woman, was taken to hospital in critical condition where she later died. The other person on the bike, a man, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries

On Sept. 3, 2024, at 12:59 a.m. 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a serious collision in Niagara Falls involving a car and bicycle.

Officers attended the scene on McLeod Road east of Drummond Road along with Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and Niagara Falls Fire Service personnel. The initial investigation determined that a bicycle and a black 2010 Acura ZDX had collided on the roadway.

The bicycle was being driven by a 30-year-old male (Niagara Falls) with a 36-year-old female (Niagara Falls) passenger. The passenger was seated in a wagon. The Acura was being driven by a 43-year-old female from Thorold.

Paramedics and Fire Service personnel attended to the driver of the bicycle and his passenger. The female passenger was found to be in critical condition. She was transported to a local hospital. She died in hospital due to her injuries. The male suffered serious injuries and was also transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the Acura was not injured.

A section of McLeod Road between Alex Avenue and Drummond Road was closed for the investigation. The road has reopened.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have been called in to investigate. They are being assisted by the NRPS Forensics Services Unit. NRP say road has now reopened

Update 10:30am:

Tragedy on the streets of Niagara Falls early this morning.

Police were called to a collision between a bicycle and car, at around 1am, on McLeod Road, near Drummond.

They found the bike was riden by a 30-year old Niagara Falls man, with a 36-year old Niagara Falls woman riding behind in a wagon.

Police say the woman was taken to local hospital in critical condition, where she died.

The man suffered serious injuries.

Police add the 43-year old woman from Thorold driving the car was not hurt.

NRP are still working to sort out what happened.

Niagara Regional Police reporting an early morning accident in Niagara Falls.

McLeod Road between Alex Avenue and Drummond Road was closed following an accident between a cyclist and a motor vehicle.

It happened around 1 a.m.

The cyclist and passenger on the bike are reported to have been transported to hospital with serious injuries, the driver of the vehicle was unharmed.

The route reopened at 8 a.m.
