A United Airlines pilot died after suffering a heart attack on flight from Houston to Seattle.
The plane made an unscheduled landing in Boise, Idaho, on Thursday night after reporting a medical emergency among the crew.
Boise airport spokeswoman Patti Miller said that an apparent heart attack on-board United flight 1603 prompted the emergency landing just after 7pm.
“The flight landed safely, and paramedics met the plane upon arrival and transported the crew member to the hospital,” said Christen David, a spokewoman for United, in an email to the Guardian.
She confirmed the captain died, but did not give his name, citing privacy concerns. “Our thoughts are with his family at this time,” she said.
The Boeing 737-400 had a crew of six on board. KOVO-TV in Seattle said a crew member made an in-flight announcement asking if anyone on-board was a physician.The man was still alive when he arrived at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center but died overnight while undergoing treatment, spokeswoman Jennifer Krajnik said Friday.
The passengers resumed their journey later, landing at Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle at 12.07am local time.
