The man, identified as Abolfazl Amiri, was performing routine maintenance at Iran’s Chabahar Konarak Airport last week when he was dragged into the turbine of a Varesh Airlines Boeing 737-500, according to Sky News Australia, TMZ and German outlet Bild.
At the time of the incident, the plane’s right engine was turned on for a test with the cover flaps open, per TMZ and Bild. A safety area had also set up around the engine, the German outlet reportedBut when Amiri went to retrieve a tool near the engine he was sucked in and instantly killed, according to the reports, which stated that the engine then caught on fire.

The fire was extinguished and the man’s remains have been recovered, Bild and Sky News Australia reported. Iran’s aviation authority is now reportedly investigating.
Additional details about the incident were not immediately available.The incident came after a KLM passenger was pulled into a plane’s engine at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in May, per the outlet. However, The Dutch Royal Military Police later said the passenger “intentionally climbed into the engine.”
