WestJet says flight cancellations post-hailstorm to continue for ‘foreseeable future’

WestJet has announced that it will continue to cancel flights “for the foreseeable future” following significant damage to its aircraft caused by a hailstorm in Calgary. This severe weather event, which occurred last week, has led to a substantial impact on the airline’s operations, leaving thousands of passengers scrambling to adjust their travel plans.

The hailstorm, which unleashed golf ball-sized ice pellets over southern Alberta, including Calgary’s main airport, caused extensive damage to 16 aircraft, representing approximately 10% of WestJet’s entire fleet.
