Frontier Adds Free Checked Bags for Cardholders: What You Need to Know

By | August 19, 2024

In partnership with Barclays U.S. Consumer Bank, Frontier Airlines has added a new benefit for its frequent flyers by allowing certain cardholders to bring two free checked bags when flying with the ultra-low-cost carrier.

Starting August 15, Frontier Airlines World Mastercard cardmembers can now bring two checked bags on all Frontier-operated flights at no extra cost, providing the low-cost carrier’s frequent customers more opportunities to save money when flying across the U.S.

Low-Cost Carrier Shifts
The latest policy is another change the ultra-low-cost carrier has made to reduce revenue losses and compete with larger airlines like United and Delta. The low-cost carrier industry in North America has been experiencing financial difficulties, with United CEO Scott Kirby even stating that the budget sector is in serious trouble.

As a result, Southwest, Spirit, and Frontier are now offering premium seating options and other perks that low-cost carriers are not famous for. Likewise, Spirit eliminated flight change and cancellation fees across all ticket fares, following the decision of Frontier to axe change fees for most of its fare types.

Under Frontier’s new bagage policy, there is no limit to how many times cardmembers can use the free checked bag benefit, and it also includes bulkier items such as golf and ski equipment. To be eligible, flight tickets must be purchased from Frontier’s website or mobile app, and cardmembers must use their Frontier Airlines World Mastercard when booking.

Cardmembers already receive a range of exclusive benefits when flying with Frontier. This includes miles that never expire (as long as card membership is maintained), no blackout dates on award travel, Zone 2 Priority Boarding on Frontier flights, and a $100 flight voucher after spending $2,500 each year.

Best for Budget Travel?
Other benefits include automatic Elite Gold Status on the Frontier Miles loyalty program for 90 days after their first card purchase, which can be extended to a year by spending $3,000 or more within the first 90 days.

These perks have led to Money.com naming the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard the ‘Best for Budget Travel’ airline credit card for the last four years.
