TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A United Airlines flight was diverted after crew members became sick, leading to a “biohazard.”

United Airlines flight 2477, heading from Houston, Texas, to Boston, Massachusetts, was diverted to Northern Virginia, according to the airline’s flight tracker.

A radio traffic recording shared by flight tracking company RadarBox gave insights into what caused the diversion.

“Sounds like it’s quite bad back there. It’s still really bad,” the man on the recording can be heard saying. “The crew is vomiting and passengers all around are asking for masks, etc.”

The man mentions diverting the flight to Cleveland due to it being a “biohazard.”

“We probably need to get this flight on the ground ASAP.”

United Airlines gave WFLA.com the following statement:

United flight UA2477 (Houston – Boston), diverted to Washington-Dulles after a customer experienced a medical issue. We deep cleaned the aircraft and it departed for Boston later that afternoon.

The plane, a Boeing 737-800 carrying 155 passengers and six crew members, arrived in Boston more than five hours late. United said no passengers or crew members required medical attention after landing.
